English for Academic Purposes (EAP)

An increasing number of Cambodians are studying abroad in English or pursuing university programs in English in Cambodia itself. ACE offers an English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program to appropriately prepare these talented students for further education.

Length of Program

ACE’s prestigious EAP program lasts approximately two years (part-time), although students needing to fast-track their studies can enrol for more than one unit per term and finish the program on an intensive basis.

Program Features

The ACE EAP program is comprised of eight core units (EAP1-8) and two electives. Each core unit includes the skills of Academic Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing as well as Pronunciation and Vocabulary skills. Special skills such as Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, Internet for Academic Study, Study Skills and Research Essay Writing are also important parts of the ACE EAP program. Moodle, a virtual learning environment is also used. The choice of electives include: Advanced Reading Skills, Advanced Writing Skills and Advanced Listening.

Students are individually counselled regarding electives that are most appropriate for specific individual learning needs.

Universities in major education destination countries generally have a minimum English language entry requirement of an IELTS score of 6.5 or 7.0. The ACE EAP program is designed to help students reach the required IELTS score for academic entry internationally.

Class Size

A maximum of 18 students is permitted in EAP classes in Phnom Penh.

Certificate

ACE awards an EAP certificate to students who successfully complete the EAP program.  In addition to this, students must sit the IELTS test which is included in the program fee. Students are provided with an IELTS Test Report Form as evidence of specific English language proficiency.

The IELTS Test Report Form is part of the ACE advantage for graduates to prove English language proficiency to employers, local and international universities and scholarship providers.
